Santa Clarita Christian School Senior, Caden Brenner, fulfilled a lifelong dream recently. He signed his letter of intent to play football with the University of Idaho. The Vandals play in the Division 1AA Sun Belt Conference. Caden becomes the third player from SCCS in the last two years to move on to play football at the division 1 level.
From his elementary school days and all the way through high school Caden had a dream. “Ever since I was a little kid I’ve dreamed of not only playing college football but playing division 1 football,” said Caden. He went on to say, “Having this opportunity is unreal for me.”
Caden’s opportunity came just “in the nick of time.” Coach Chazz Anderson had recently connected with one of his former coaches from the University of Cincinnati who is now on staff for the Vandals. After seeing Caden’s highlight reel and having a few conversations with Anderson, the Vandals offered a preferred walk-on spot to Caden. This guarantees Brenner a spot on the team and the opportunity to work for a scholarship during his sophomore year. Coach Anderson said, “This was a God thing. For Caden to receive this opportunity this late in the game is truly a God thing.”
Coach Anderson said of Brenner, “He’s a great player. He led well and left a legacy that will be untouched for a long time because of how he carried himself.” Anderson continued, “He led by his actions and that needs to be emulated by players in the years to come.”
Caden had a series of amazing coaches during his time at SCCS which included Garrick Moss, Josh Kristoff, Dennis Schwesinger and Chazz Anderson. Each of them helped prepare him for the next level. Caden also mentioned one other coach, “Coach Armon Binns played a huge part for me this last year, specifically at receiver.”
Coach Mark Bates, who joined the SCCS football staff last summer, and is now stepping in as the head coach had the opportunity to observe Caden. Bates said, “He’s a hard-working kid who had to battle through some adversity with injuries. I am excited for his opportunity and that he gets to represent SCCS at the next level.”
Caden’s mother, Heather Brenner, was excited for her son. She said of Caden, “He has worked so incredibly hard and to see him at this moment is so sweet. Through it all, the Lord had a plan and it’s always good.”
His father Jason Brenner said, “The moment Caden started playing organized football, at the age of 5, it was easy to see that he had a passion and desire unlike most of his peers. It’s incredibly special to see his hard work and commitment come together in this way.”
Congratulations to Caden Brenner for his hard work on and off the field. We are excited to see another amazing SCCS student succeed at the next level.
