Boys Varsity Football · Blaike Orth Plays in High Desert Senior All-Star Football Game

On Saturday, February 17, SCCS senior Blaike Orth took part in the Eleventh Annual High Desert Senior All-Star football game. After his incredible season on the offensive and defensive side of the ball it’s no surprise he was selected.

Orth’s 2017 campaign was impressive and led to an All-CIF selection as a defensive back. He finished the season with 67 tackles (27 of those were solo) and 3 interceptions. Offensively Blaike had 46 catches and led the Cardinals in total receiving yards with 1,131. He also contributed in a big way on special teams with 211 kick return yards including an 80-yard kickoff return for a touchdown early on in the season.

Defensive Coordinator Josh Kristoff said of Blaike, “He displayed what it truly means to be a senior high school football player. When his team needed him to step up and make a play, he made the play.”

His success during the season transferred into the all-star game. On the offensive side of the ball, he had two catches for 52 yards. Defensively he brought in one interception and had 9 tackles. During halftime, they presented Blaike with the Sportsmanship award. The award states he is “the student-athlete who most exemplifies the ideals of sportsmanship on the field with ethical behavior, fair play, and integrity.”

“It was an awesome experience,” said Blaike of his opportunity to play in this game. He went on to say, “It was a surreal moment playing with the ‘best of the best’…I just felt very honored and blessed to have the opportunity to play one last time.”

It should also be noted that Noah Nnabua and Tommy Shields were selected to the All-Star team as well but we unable to play. Tommy Shields was held out due to injury. Noah Nnabua was on an official recruiting visit out of state (more on that later).

Congratulations to Blaike, Noah, and Tommy on their all-star seasons.
