Santa Clarita, CA – The Santa Clarita Christian School boys basketball team played their first playoff game this evening after receiving a first-round bye. In front of a large home crowd at The Master’s University, they defeated the Rubidoux Falcons of Riverside 83-23.
The Cardinals started the game of strong with a 17-0 run. The run included a string of three-pointers from Noah Veluzat who finished the game with 6 three-pointers and a team-high 24 points.
Jordan Starr had a strong first half as well. He utilized his size to drive into the paint and get the easy buckets. He finished the game just shy of a triple-double with 16 points, 11 assists, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals.
The Falcons struggled to get the ball moving in their offensive zone. The Cardinal’s stingy defense forced many turnovers and they were able to convert those into points. By the end of the first two quarters, the Cardinals held a commanding 45-11 lead.
The second half belonged to Kevin Stone. He put up 10 of his 13 points during this time, including two 3-pointers. He was also a pest to the Rubidoux offense.
The Cardinals had another night of strong ball movement around the perimeter and had solid shooting from beyond the arch. The strong shooting combined with continued defensive pressure on the Falcons helped guide the Cardinals to their win.
The Cardinals know the deeper they get in the playoffs the harder the tests will become. How do the Cardinals prepare for the challenges ahead? Head coach James Mosley said, “We cannot become complacent…we need to stay hungry.”
The Cardinals now move on to the quarterfinals. They will play the La Quinta Aztecs of Westminster. Keep an eye out on our social media accounts for time and location.
