Thursday night the Cardinal Volleyball team (2-1, 1-0) took on the Lancaster Baptist Eagles (0-0) in a Heritage League matchup. The Cardinals took home court advantage to its fullest and swept their way to their first league victory (25-10, 25-6, 25-15).
After the game, Head Coach Darcy Brown was impressed with Lancaster. “We played hard against a scrappy team.” However, Brown pointed to the Cardinal game plan. “We wanted to come out and play our game and we did just that. We also wanted to run the pace of the game and stay on our toes…Our girls were charged.” The game plan worked and Lancaster was never able to make a solid push against the lady Cardinals.
Vanessa Gracia and Megan Dombrowski were dominant as Gracia had 7 aces and Dombrowski had 6 aces. Kalona Marr took control on offense with 8 kills and Julia Phillips followed her closely with 5 kills. The Cardinals had a solid game on offense from the serves to their net presence. Defensively, they stood their ground well and limited the Eagles offense.
Coach Brown also noted the great crowd and said it was the biggest crowd by far in this very young season. It was Red, White, and Blue night. Students had draped themselves with the American flag and were cheering on their Cardinals. “The crowd added a super fun atmosphere.”
The Cardinals travel to Lancaster to take on Desert Christian on September 2 at 5 p.m.
